U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord) played an important behind the scenes role in the ascension of U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Cali.) to become the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce committee.
Hodes served as a member of Waxman's whip team in a caucus vote that pitted Waxman against committee chairman U.S. Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.). House Democrats voted 137-122 to give the chairmanship to Waxman instead of to Dingell, who has been the leading Democrat on the committee since 1981.
"He [Hodes] believes Chairman Waxman will be a great leader in creating a 21st century energy strategy, addressing climate change and revitalizing our health care system to make it portable and affordable for every American," Hodes spokesman Mark Bergman said in a statement to PolitickerNH.com.
Bergman also said that Hodes was an "early backer" of Waxman's bid.
According to FEC numbers, Waxman contributed $3,287 to Hodes re-election campaign while Dingell gave Hodes $1,000. Waxman also attended a Merrimack County Democrats fundraiser with Hodes during the summer.

Don't forget that Michigan tried to take away NH's First in the Nation primary; and one of the leaders of the effort was Debbie Dingell, wife of the congressman.
money talks
So Hodes sold his vote to the highest bidder. What else is new. So instead of a chairman who might actually care about how ridiculous "climate change" law might affect our auto industry, we get a left wing loon as chairman. Good move Dems.
A constant battle
How often I consider posting outright BS, like our "Concerned Republican" does, and sometimes I do in jest.
It is a struggle though because one has to "stand" next to their public statements. Maybe having an "anon handle" makes those concerns go away.
That doesn't work for me. I'll stick to saying things that I would say in public, knowing my reputation is on the line.
Paul Hodes is doing the right thing and working on the change he has committed to.
Agreed...
So I'll just repeat what Jack said:
"Paul Hodes is doing the right thing and working on the change he has committed to."
Good choice
I think that this move is a good first step in moving towards a more balanced view of industry versus environment. The auto industry has shot themselves in their own feet by digging in their heels on issues such as energy efficiency, and the taxpayers are now being asked to pay the price for that intransigence. Waxman an be strident, but he's also persistent, so I expect to see some actual results for the better. And good for Rep. Hodes, following through on promises.
