UNH poll: McCain leads Obama by 2

A new poll shows John McCain leading Barack Obama by two percentage points in the Granite State, well within the poll's margin-of-error.

In the WMUR Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire and sponsored by WMUR, 47 percent of likely voters say they will vote for McCain, 45 percent say Obama and 7 percent are undecided. However when respondents were asked, "Thinking about the presidential election in November, would you vote for Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin...Democrats Barack Obama and Joe Biden ... someone else ... or haven't you decided yet?" the number of undecided increased to 20 percent.

"The race in New Hampshire is very close, but about 1 in 4 voters are not firm in supporting either candidate," said Andrew Smith, Director of the UNH Survey Center, in a press release. "New Hampshire is definitely a state that is up for grabs and will remain so until election day."

The poll also found that Gov. Sarah Palin has a favorable rating of 48 percent and U.S. Sen. Joe Biden is viewed favorably by 45 percent of voters. "Among Republicans, Palin's net favorability rating is +78% while Biden's is +61% among Democrats," the poll also finds.

The economy is viewed as the top issue for Granite Staters followed by terrorism, Iraq, healthcare and gas prices.
