Susan Scott, the candidate who New Hampshire Democrats hoped would defeat state Rep. Jim Ryan (D-Franklin) says she would fill his place on the ballot if asked.
Facing charges relating to a forgery case Ryan has resigned his seat and will not be on the November ballot. Under state law the Democratic Party can fill his slot with a replacement. Last week, the party recruited Scott (D-Franklin) to stage a write-in campaign in an attempt to knock Ryan off the ballot. However, Scott was unable to finish ahead of Ryan in the primary and Ryan's name would still appear on the ballot if he had not resigned.
"I would if they want," Scott said in an interview with PolitickerNH.com. "I wouldn't campaign hard for it; I'd attend candidate meetings like that."
Scott said the party has not yet officially asked her to replace Ryan.
Commenting on Ryan's resignation Scott said, "It's just tragic, it just sort of steamrolled."
Due to eye surgery, Scott said she has been unable to read her email or any news accounts of the primary.
